A possible glimpse into the Future

Ok, I have wanted to hold off posting about this issue until more infomation as to what cutbacks or changes which SEPTA and other transportation authories throughout the state would have to make as result of this issue. As you know, or may not know, the  transit agencies thoughout the commonwealth of Pennsyvania and PennDot has been facing fiscal capital budget woes. Well as result, SEPTA has released their doomsday scenerio if these budget woes are not address.  One thing that should be stressed is that this doomsday scenerio should not be taken lightly. For the past several years, SEPTA’s capital budget as well as other agencies thoughout the SEPTA has been reduced. Many of the projects to maintain the bridges, replace rolling stock [Silverliner IV] has been put on deferrment because there are no funds available.  If this funding issue is not resolved then the first line to be discontiued would be the Cynwyd Line [flyover bridge] and the Eywyn line in 2015 – both of these lines operates over bridges which are in need to be replaced or substituted. We need a long term funding solution now!!

New SEPTA Novabus Pilot revealed!

SEPTA plans to order 155 articulated Novabuses and 90 40ft Novabuses.  All of the 40 ft buses and 70 of the artics will be hybrids; the rest of the artics will be clean diesel buses if SEPTA is unable to obtain additional funding to upgrade them to hybrid buses.

Route 52 Changes Begin Monday

Starting on Monday, January 14th Route 52 will begin operating a new turn back loop in the Wynnefield Heights section of the city.  The new turn back loop for buses ending at 54th and City will be via 54th Street, a left onto Wynnefield Avenue, a right onto Cardinal Avenue, a right onto City Avenue followed by a right onto 54th Street to the present layover spot.  This change is being done due to numerous complaints about the number of buses operating on Conshohocken Avenue between City and Belmont.  With this new turn around loop only Gladwynne bound 52 buses will stop at 54th and Overbrook headed north.  There will also be no stops on the turnaround route between 54th and Wynnefield and City and Cardinal.

SEPTA Buses Vandalized

Two SEPTA buses (at least one of them a New Flyer) were vandalized Saturday night (December 15th) shortly after 22:30 on the 7100 block of Roosevelt Blvd in the Mayfair section of the city.  Officials report a large group of young people forced their way onto the buses after coming out of an event and started breaking the windows and causing other damage.  No arrests or injuries have been reported.
