Ok, I have wanted to hold off posting about this issue until more infomation as to what cutbacks or changes which SEPTA and other transportation authories throughout the state would have to make as result of this issue. As you know, or may not know, the transit agencies thoughout the commonwealth of Pennsyvania and PennDot has been facing fiscal capital budget woes. Well as result, SEPTA has released their doomsday scenerio if these budget woes are not address. One thing that should be stressed is that this doomsday scenerio should not be taken lightly. For the past several years, SEPTA’s capital budget as well as other agencies thoughout the SEPTA has been reduced. Many of the projects to maintain the bridges, replace rolling stock [Silverliner IV] has been put on deferrment because there are no funds available. If this funding issue is not resolved then the first line to be discontiued would be the Cynwyd Line [flyover bridge] and the Eywyn line in 2015 – both of these lines operates over bridges which are in need to be replaced or substituted. We need a long term funding solution now!!
