PCC’s at Elmwood, Germantown, taken by Michael B. (A collection of  Doug Diehl);

These units were built and purchased by the Philadelphia Transportation Company in the 1940’s, when their order were completed there were over 1000 of these units running on the streets, and served the streets of the Philadelphia area for about 40 years.  Since then in the 1950’s-60’s most of these lines were converted over to buses leaving only merely a few streetcar routes left in the city. For extensive information on these units you could go to http://www.phillytrolley.org.
