Construction Projects

   1 Frankford elevated reconstruction project 1986-1996 completed

Complete reconstruction of the original 1922 Elevated guide way and support columns of the Frankford Elevated structure between Girard station and just south of Frankford terminal

 

   2 Frankford EL station reconstruction 1996-2006 completed

Modernization of the original Frankford elevated stations. replacement of  platforms and head houses.  Each station with the exception of Margaret-Orthodox has or will be fully ADA compliant by 2006.

   3 Frankford Transportation Center project 1999-2006  completed

   Construction of an ATC building and a new Terminal building, restoration of the old Bridge street terminal building, construction of a 1,000 car parking  garage and reconfiguration of the Frankford bus garage.

   4 Market St Elevated reconstruction Project 2001-2009 completed

 Construction of a New EL guide way to replace the original elevated structure which opened in 1907. Reconstruction of stations and construction of head houses for 46th, 52nd, 56th, 60, and 63rd street stations. And construction of ATC buildings at 52nd and 63rd street stations. all stations will be ADA accessible.

 

   5 New 69th ST. maintenance shops

 

 Construction of a New Shop to maintain the M4 car fleet. Construction of a new wash house for the cars and reconstruction of the storage yard.

Improvement projects

  1 New M4 subway/EL cars 1995-1999

 

 

An order of 220 rail cars went to ADtranz (now part of Bombardier transportation) to replace the Budd M3 cars on the Market-Frankford line.  The first set of cars arrived in January 1997 with the last set arriving in September 1999. These cars are fully ADA compliant and have A/C.
